Finally got to watch this episode this evening. Agree with H5O about the flaws - it doesn't make sense at all that they would let Harry Quon anywhere near Julie, let alone ride in the car with McGarrett and Danno.
Another head-scratcher that I've never understood - at the end, Nick is badly wounded and he and Julie are still trying to escape. So they get into the car...with Nick driving! What?? Let the barely conscious guy who is bleeding to death drive the car? Why didn't Julie drive?
I liked seeing Hilo Hattie in the role of Nick and Julie's neighbor on Maui. She must have been an interesting lady. Her clothing line is still going strong and y…
Yes! Thank you - I forgot about the whole wounded Nick driving thing. That also drives me nuts. The writer made some strange choices in this one. And I also love the scenes in Maui. Never knew that was Hilo Hattie but found that lady charming. Will watch this with a whole new appreciation now! Thanks for the info.
At the start of that scene, Charlie Cayliss (Al Harrington) comes up from the floor of the back seat of the getaway car with a gun in hand. At his insistence, they go up the Kalanianaʽole Highway to a road behind Koko Head and overlooking Hanauma and Hawaii Kai. At the overlook, Charlie tells Nick to pull off, then instructs him to kill Julie (because “that’s how Harry wants it”). Al Harrington speaks in a strong Hawaiian accent in this scene (“Let’s do it now, Bay-bee”). That brief scene shows Al Harrington's acting ability. It's no wonder he was later chosen to play Detective Ben Kokua.
This has always bothered me too. Not only is it completely improper for them to bring Harry, a suspect, with them, but it didn’t seem to serve any purpose other than dramatic ones. I also felt it detracted hugely from the episode. Poor choice by the writer. I also did not understand why Harry was brought in to the interview room for Julie to say that she had seen him kill John Louisiana. You would never bring a suspect in to the interview room with a witness. Again, more dramatics that were distracting. Other than that, I do like this episode and even though Nick is a killer, Don Stroud does a fabulous job of making us sympathetic to hi…

I don't know why,but I didn't like this episode before rewatching it and I don't like it now.
Maybe it's because the plot "contract killer fells in love with the person who is ordererd killed" is kind of a cliche´plot.
The music is wonderful though , like you said, H50.
