I'm back and was able to watch this episode tonight. Thank you for your concern. I'm using my sink again, but it's draining into a bucket underneath that I empty after doing the dishes. Husband still working on repairs. Here are my thoughts:
Yes, this seems to be an episode that parallels “Daisies” from season one in some respects. Danny once again has shot a young man under questionable circumstances and must defend himself to save his career and reputation. At least Ricky didn’t die. But as Steve’s Girl has pointed out, one would think that after ten years on the job, Dan would be a bit more mature about his reaction. He should not have resigned so publicly.…
An excellent review of "Pig in a Blanket," Honu! Well thought out and most thorough. Well, I'll do better next week when we discuss "Journey Out of Limbo." Now, that's one of my favorites! Do hope Plumber John has your kitchen woes sorted out in very short order. It's next to impossible to carry on without plumbing in the kitchen.
Well, I intended to watch this episode today, but it didn't happen. Major plumbing emergency, flooded kitchen, washed the dinner dishes in the bathtub. Sigh. Maybe tomorrow.
Obviously my comment wasn't published (maybe I forgot to press "publish"which wouldn't surprise after the day Ihad), so I'll try anew.
Though this is an episode that shows Ben off duty which doesn't happen often, to me Danny's behavior is more important.
Again, like in"And They Painted Daisies..." Danny's career is at stake because he shot a man.
Here is another fine example of Steve's compassion, loyalty and trust in Danny. He says he trusts Danny because the latter is a seasoned cop of 10 years. But to me it seems that Danny didn't grow much as a person. In "Daisies" he complained what a stinking job being a cop was. Here he declares himself guilty in front of camera…
My initial impressions: There aren’t many episodes of Hawaii Five-0 that I don’t like, but this is one of them. I don’t like the drive-by shooting of a police officer. I don’t like the mistaken shooting of a young boy. I don’t like the arrogance of that boy’s older brother, especially not when it comes to light that he is the episode bad guy. I don’t like the arrogance of the boys’ mother, who seems to have no knowledge, at all, that her older son is fencing stolen electrical appliances. Just where has she been all his life?
My deeper impressions: For all the horrible characters, this episode does have one or two redeeming qualities. It primarily is a Dann…
Many thanks to Honu and Steve's Girl for contributing excellent points to the discussion. Do hope more of you will choose to join in next week. Aloha!
